HOW CAN I COMBINE TWO OR MORE SECTIONS IN ONE MOODLE COURSE?

You can use the same Moodle course for more than one section or course. There are different solutions in different Moodle services:

For combining the sections of the same course

  1. First create Moodle courses FOR EACH section you want to combine.
  2. In your list of courses on Moodle, you will see a combined course named "YourCourse (All Sections)".
If you want your students to see the combined course (and not the others), make sure that the individual Moodle courses opened for each section are "unavailable to students" and that the combined course is "available to students" from the course settings.

How to group students of different sections:

It is possible to divide students into different sections by using "Group" facilities. For example, CS101 Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, ... 10 can use the same Moodle course named "CS101 (All Sections) Introduction to Programming". The students of these 10 sections will reach the same course. If the instructor wants to divide the students into different sections in this common course, he/she can group the students according to their sections but this should be done manually.

For combining the sections of FAE courses

  1. First create Moodle courses FOR EACH section you want to combine.
  2. In your list of courses on Moodle, you will see a combined course named "YourName (All Sections)".
If you want your students to see the combined course (and not the others), make sure that the individual Moodle courses opened for each section are "unavailable to students" and that the combined course is "available to students" from the course settings.

EXAMPLE: Let's say ENG101 Section 34 and ENG101 Section 65 will have one Moodle course. The steps will be as follows:

For combining courses with different codes

You can combine two different courses with different codes in one course.
  1. First create Moodle courses FOR EACH course you want to combine.
  2. Then make a request to moodle@bilkent.edu.tr to combine these two courses (this is done manually).
If you want your students to see the combined course (and not the others), make sure that the individual Moodle courses opened for each section are "unavailable to students" and that the combined course is "available to students" from the course settings.

EXAMPLE: Courses "CTP208-Programming for the Internet" and "CTE301-Programming for the Internet" can use same Moodle course and can be named as "CTP208, CTE301: Programming for Internet".
